BEYOND DONE WITH INSULET
I called 2 times. At 3:26am The first woman spoke very broken english and told me to put the pod in the freezer to get it to start or at least that is what it sounded like she said.
We have used omnipod for 5 years now because my child was so young tubed pumps were not really an option. 3:39 am The second woman I spoke with, I clearly told the entire thing I explained, she said she understood. Yay! She said I did all of the trouble shooting steps.
So try holding the power button for 10 seconds. Please understand I have been up for well over 48 hours taking care of my mother who passed away at 12:02 this morning I am utterly exhausted. I already explained that to her, saying I apologize if I come off a bit snarky. I had told her it had ALREADY PRIMED (I said that multiple times in the call) and pdm said communication error, I may have said cannot find pod (please remember I am exhausted).
Because that's what it said the 4 times before I managed to get it to prime. So when it restarted it said set up new pump. I lost it! I did!
I apologize to the company omnipod and to her that I displaced my grief and anger at her after she told me I had to be in the room with the pod. By this point my son's pod was off over 30 minutes. I said replace the pod or fix the issue! She said I just need to be in the same room as the pod.
I was angry at this point, frustrated and totally beyond confused. Then I started yelling because YOU CAN'T RESTART A POÐ!!! It had primed, she had me reset the PDM which canceled the prime and the pod is now useless, full of insulin and I have to dispose of it. But YOU WON'T REPLACE THE POD YOU BASICALLY HAD ME SHUT OFF!!!
At this point my son is 9, he is capable of safely wearing a tubed pump. He can wear the same system do now a medtronic device.
I will never go back to Omnipod and I will never recommend this corporation. They care more about saving the 20 they would lose by replacing the pod than the actual patient.

Verified ReviewerBest insulin delivery system
I have two children who are type 1 diabetics. We have tried numerous methods beforehand, and the OP5 has proven to be the best.
A tubed pump isn't even an option for my kids, too many snags and who wants to be hooked up to basically a tiny IV constantly? The automated mode is pretty good, it should still have a delayed bolus option, however, as it cannot accurately predict necessary future corrections for those particularly unfriendly meals like pizza or rice. I have to put timers on other devices to give more insulin later and repeat the process. separate controller is preferable for our family, but I wish there was a way to page it or make it make noise via the pod itself for when it gets lost under a chair or behind a computer (adolescent boys, ya know?).
Activity mode is good, but should have half hour intervals instead of just hour. They need to have a backup for the learned information in the pod's controller, too. It adjusts on automated to an individual's needs, and does so well enough, but if the controller/phone gets broken or replaced then it needs to recalibrate to the patient again, which takes weeks. Overall, we really like this device, and don't want anything else; but it definitely could use some tweaks.
Also, just like Dexcom, the adhesive contains allergens. We have to rip off and hot glue hypafix medical tape to it instead.
Very frustrating. These medical device manufacturers need to have another option for the patients they become millionaires off of.
- Great customer service
- No needles
- Able to give insulin whenever
- Adhesive
Preferred solution: Make an alternative to their allergen riddled adhesive
User's recommendation: Try it, it's a fantastic little device.
Omnipod has abandoned its customers
I have used the omnipod since it was first introduced. It was great.
Supposedly the Omnipod was created by a man trying to help his son who is diabetic. It has since turned into a money making endeavor. This man should be ashamed. I have a new omnipod dash because I was forced to because the omnipod classic was discontinued.
I cant even register my device without paying a shipping fee to get what I need to download the Glooko app which I need to register my new device.
I am ready to switch to a new insulin pump after all these years of using omnipod. It may be more inconvenient but at least I feel I am not being scammed.
- Tubeless insulin delivery
- Only care about making money
- Omnipod has deserted its long term users
Preferred solution: Full refund

Verified Reviewer |Terrible customer service
I have had the equipment that is (OVER THE TOP EXPENSIVE) FOR several weeks and I can't get training on how to use it. I call Omnipod and after giving out my date of birth more than 7 times to 7 different reps (2 of which I couldn't understand) only to be told they couldn't help me and it is my doctors fault for not sending the settings.
They were very clear to tell me that they are open 365 days a year, 24 hours a day. That's great to be open all the time but if you can't help your consumer what's the point? I just wasted 41 minutes and not one person there was able to answer the simplest question or assist me and get me one step closer to using this over priced product.
I will take all of this to my next appointment December 20th and try to get it to work. You guys are terrible and should be ashamed of yourself for simply leading your customers along and not solving anything.
User's recommendation: Use a different company

Customer review
Its constantly not communicating with the transmitter! Its constantly beeping, but on 3 occasions I have had low bg with the machine not alerting me before I already knew, deep into the 40s.
Unacceptable. My hba1c has increased since Jan.2022 from 6.4 on the classic Omni pod from 13 years to this upgrade which sets me at 8.3 hba1c . Currently. Every other day it cant detect pod and I have to restart my pdm or it makes me change pods.
My insurance company wont fill my prescription any earlier than 30 days. It makes no since to the insurance or myself why these pods would deactivate everyday and you explain thats why you need an early prescription, then in addition! Threatened that only one emergency refill can be accepted in a Calder year, fyi. Id rather be on the classic checking my blood and taking care of my self.
This system is not working to help take care of me, its the worst system ever! I did better with 12 shots a day!
And this machine is breaking the bank to top it off! Dont waste your time, health, or expenses, theres much better options!

Verified ReviewerTo complain about my new omnipod 5 system
I started use of the omnipod 5 on aug 25th 2023 and in these 4 weeks I have had to go back to my medtronic pump 3 going on 4 times. I am about to chsnge back to the medtronic pump again due to it not being able to keep my glucose numbers down for a full 24-48 hours.
I started a pod at 12:16am this morning Friday Sept 22 2023 and things were fine until around 3pm this afternoon. Glucose was fine until I ate a breakfast around 3pm which was 60 carbs and gradually my glucose has gone up and down ranging from 161 to now it was 388 when I stopped the pod and took it off. The only other thing I ate today was a salad with raisins and cranberries around 8:30pm and I have been bolusing all day and my glucose still has gone to 388. This isn't the first time this has happened and I've called insulet with to which I haven't recieved s bit of help yet.
I started off with training that didn't go well on my end because it was a ZOOM call training including the trainer and another patient to whom the trainer was with. My volume on the ZOOM call wasn't coming through so I couldn't watch the training and listen at the same time.
Insulet has failed to get me the same in person training that the patient that was with the trainer got whole I was on the ZOOM call. This is very frustrating and I believe that due to the stress that I'm going through due to the operation of these omnipod 5 pods and insulet not being able to get me training I may soon end up in a hospital due to high glucose levels thank you

- Tubeless
- Glucose control for me is horrible
Preferred solution: Some type of in person training or a new omnipod 5 kit if this one might be faulty
